Is your Handy 2 pro working?

Long story short: I just contacted theHandy -support team because my THIRD replacement of the Handy 2 pro has charging issues (the first two did not charge, the third showed 100% all the time but suddenly died, and this one looks like it is similar to the two first)

Previously one in the support team wrote how unlucky i was (on the 2nd replacement) and that only 3% of the devices had a charging error. It means that i am rarer that one in a million in handy-2-pro-unluckiness if it is true. But since I have read that more people have issues with the handy 2 pro and also because I want to justify to myself that I have made my 4th ticket and I might some day get one that works. I have made this poll to see if there is some chance to get a handy 2 pro that works. For “scientific” reasons please only submit an answer if it is about theHandy 2 Pro Thanks

  • My handy 2 pro is working like a charm
  • My handy 2 pro is working but it is a replacement for a faulty one
  • My handy 2 pro is working but has some issues
  • My handy 2 did not work and I have given up

I have two Handy 2 Pro units. My March delivered one recently got stuck at 20% maximum speed - regardless of settings - after some hard use. I did grease it a few weeks before the issue. I’m currently waiting on my replacement delivery.

My early bird H2Pro from Kickstarter is working well still.

i have a base model handy 2 from the kickstarter as well, just the reg, not the pro (though looking back i wish i did because wow 400 is alot) but mine has been broken since last november, till it randomly stopped charging the battery and showing an x over the battery logo, requiring it to be plugged in 24/7, till the type c port broke (few pins bent bad) then in an attempt to bend them back the port fell off leaving nothing visible but the solder pads the port sat on , it was originally an upgrade from my old 1 since it was getting worn, which broke a month later, and i have since bought another handy 1 since its much more reliable, and because handy 2’s weren’t avaialable to purchase still, and it was 115$. still want to repair it one day, but sucks even the premium version is having even more issues

It’s under warranty still - why not get it replaced for free by Handy?

because im afraid i broke my warranty when i tried to repair it, i took the silicoln case off during the repair to better get at the port, and access the screws to see how hard a fix it needed, didnt want to go through the effort of a warranty if i could fix it easily, actually hoping i have a fix for it on the way rn, ordered a 6 pin header to usb c female with pd cord, which looks like it has a similar plug to the one connected inside my handy 2’s mb, idrc if it has to be always plugged in atp, since im used to that

Honestly, I found the support process a bit slow, but totally worth it. Once they saw the video proof of my problem (very loose USB connector), they sent me a brand new unit and said I could keep the original. The total wait time from concern to new device on my doorstep was 11 days.

For everyone having issues, please give them a chance to help you out. Even if it takes a month of back and forth, it sure as hell would be faster than the time we waited for our early birds to arrive, and it’s a good bet you’ll still be able to keep the broken one to tinker with later if you want.

Ordered from a reseller store for just 260€. The first one I got started doing a weird noise and the magnet from the ClickOn system magnet came off, when I got the replacement, I somehow broke the charging cable, it was pretty fragile. Also the ClickOn magnet came off, this time from the plastic part which isn’t attached to the handy, lead screw lacked grease and had gotten dry, probably had been in storage for a long time. Other than that runs good so far, but I’ve had it for only a few days. Might ask for a replacement again, or just glue the magnet back in and get a different cable.

Maybe I’m just lucky but my handy 2 pro has been stellar since day 1 and never had issues that weren’t resolved from a firmware update and I regularly push that thing to it’s limits.

I got one that wouldn’t charge at all. Support is being helpful but the process is annoyingly slow, I don’t love being the proud owner of a very expensive brick.

Mine just turned off mid-run, and won’t turn on. I tried re-charging, but no luck.

Compared to handy 1, it feels not as good. Slicker, yes. But not as high quality.

I wouldn’t go back to the original Handy. After overclocking the H2P the experience is significantly better.

or just use an osr2+

The user experience for the OSR2+ is nowhere near as convenient as xbvr + HereSphere + Handy wifi sadly. With xbvr on my NAS I don’t need a PC to enjoy porn with my setup - unlike a T-Code device like the OSR2+.

Also, the build quality of a 3D printed device varies wildly by vendor. Support may not be there when you need it - like what happened with the $700+ SR6 I purchased from a vendor who seemingly disappeared.

The Handy 2 Pro may not be perfect, but they replace defective units.

I concur about the OSR2+ vs Handy. Multi-axis is great but the convenience of more flexible positioning and quick/effortless setup makes single axis still a very viable choice.

I treat my OSR more like an occasion since it requires significant setup.

There are plenty of well established vendors and even companies like mirabot and funsr in the space with high quality products and support. You spend less money on devices and get quicker response times if an issue arises vs the handy 2.

You could charge back in this case.

This device should have never had defects in the first place it’s expensive and they don’t replace all units.

It’s nice that the handy 2 is convenient for people but I think it should be cheaper for those people. The experience of paying that much money waiting days to weeks for a response for rma is not a good one.

I got a super early bird model and after a couple months it significantly lost strength and would bottom out higher because the motor was failing to make the part go down.

They replaced and the second one is seeing the same issue, though it took longer for it to start.

I got my first model replaced due to the usb-c port not working, and therefor, stopped charging.
They send the replacement pretty fast, with a bonus sleeve too (the pod), which was pretty nice.

So far the replacement is working really well, and no issues has occurred so far.
Lets hope it continues like that, haha.

Thanks for the answers.

I got a glimmer of hope that that the next one will work since so many of you have a working Handy. On the other hand i found out that I might not be one in a million but perhaps one in thousand…

I also have to add that the support has been ok. They have been replacing the broken devices 3 (one pending) times. My first was an early bird. But I am also tired writing to them, recording videos and creating data-files and sending them and waiting…but given the responses here I guess they are busy, and I wonder if the product was properly tested.

I guess we just have to wait and see how robust they are.

Perhaps 5th time is a charm for me
